Role Overview
Anthropic is hiring an Engineering Manager for Hardware Platform Security to lead a specialized group focused on firmware, hardware, and operating system security. This hands-on leadership position suits an experienced engineering manager with a deep technical background in systems security who wants to drive the security posture of bare-metal infrastructure supporting advanced AI systems. The role is available in San Francisco, California, or Seattle, Washington, operating under a location-based hybrid policy where staff are expected in the office at least 25 percent of the time.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, hire, onboard, and develop a growing team of full-time platform security engineers, alongside coordinating contractor and vendor personnel.
Own the end-to-end platform security roadmap encompassing hardware roots of trust, secure and measured boot across CPUs, baseboard management controllers, accelerators, and peripheral firmware.
Oversee the firmware supply chain posture, including software bills of materials, reference integrity manifests, authenticated updates, and rollback protection.
Direct platform risk assessments for new compute environments and provide evidence-based recommendations.
Partner closely with infrastructure, fleet, compute, and detection and response teams to integrate platform controls without degrading training or inference performance.
Manage critical relationships with silicon vendors, original equipment manufacturers, and compute providers regarding security requirements, vulnerability management, and remediation timelines.
Facilitate the team operating rhythm, including design reviews, threat modeling, incident participation for platform-layer issues, and executive status reporting.
Requirements
Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in systems security, with at least 5 years concentrated on firmware, hardware, or operating system-level security.
At least 5 years of experience acting as a people manager for security or systems engineers, including hiring and mentoring senior and staff-level talent.
Strong technical proficiency spanning architecture down to implementation details, covering secure boot, measured boot, Trusted Platform Modules, attestation protocols, Unified Extensible Firmware Interface, baseboard management controller firmware, and Linux kernel and operating system hardening.
Proven track record of owning a technical roadmap end-to-end and resolving conflicts between security, performance, and delivery schedules.
Experience working directly with silicon vendors, OEMs, or cloud and bare-metal providers on security requirements and remediation.
Excellent written communication skills for creating design reviews, risk assessments, and executive status updates.
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience in a relevant field of study.
Nice to Have
Experience managing mixed teams consisting of full-time employees, contractors, and vendor engineers while maintaining internal design authority.
Hands-on background working with OpenBMC or other server management firmware, dynamic root of trust for measurement, secure launch, or confidential computing primitives such as TDX, SEV-SNP, or ARM CCA.
History of upstream contributions or maintainership in Linux, OpenBMC, or comparable communities, or involvement with the Trusted Computing Group, UEFI Forum, or Open Compute Project.
Experience securing large-scale high-performance computing or artificial intelligence training infrastructure.
Background in firmware vulnerability research, reverse engineering, or fuzzing, alongside coordinated vulnerability disclosure management.
