About this role
The Guest & Host insights platform team builds the system that decides what every host is told about improving earnings, quality, and listings, delivering this guidance across email, push notifications, in-product experiences, dashboards, and conversational agents. Managing this platform involves leading senior and staff engineers across data engineering, machine learning, and backend as the system transitions from batch to real-time and from rules-based to model-driven architectures with AI-assisted personalization. What you will do
- Collaborate with other senior leaders to define and drive long-term technical strategy and architecture for the platform.
- Partner with product, design, and data science leaders to establish platform strategy for ranking, personalizing, and measuring insights.
- Lead the engineering team to build reliable, performant, and scalable systems for insight creation, cross-channel delivery, and measurement.
- Provide critical input for the team roadmap and overall technical direction while influencing stakeholders to adopt shared goals.
- Perform hands-on development tasks, including design and code reviews, to maintain high engineering standards.
- Mentor, guide, and support the career growth of individual contributors within the organization.
What you need
- Ten or more years of relevant experience in the technology industry, including five or more years in an engineering manager role with ownership of large-scale software systems.
- Strong product judgment based on data, with the ability to spot user behavior patterns and translate them into platform decisions.
- Proven track record of setting and holding multi-year technical direction on a live, business-critical platform during major re-architectures.
- Depth in backend, data, or machine learning platforms, with familiarity across distributed systems, data pipelines, and real-time or streaming architectures.
- Experience applying machine learning and large language models in production for personalization and ranking, using experimentation to prove impact.
- Demonstrated experience managing senior and staff engineers while fostering a culture of diversity and belonging.

What is the salary range for this role?
The base pay range is $212,000 to $265,000 USD. The actual base pay depends on factors such as training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands.
