About this role

The Energy Scheduling & Portfolio Lead at Anthropic oversees energy availability and manages physical energy delivery across the non-cloud data center portfolio. This remote-friendly position suits an experienced energy professional ready to build a brand-new scheduling and portfolio function from the ground up.

Role Overview

Anthropic is hiring an Energy Scheduling & Portfolio Lead to maintain a live view of energy availability risk and need for workload management across the non-cloud data center portfolio. This foundational role involves managing physical energy delivery rather than financial instruments, ensuring that energy supply and workload plans remain perfectly aligned with site planning and data center operations. The professional in this role acts as the primary operational counterpart to retail and wholesale suppliers, LSEs, QSEs, and scheduling coordinators across various domestic and international power markets.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain the live view of contracted, available, and committed energy and capacity at every site against planned load and ramp by month and hour.
Serve as the operational counterpart to LSEs, QSEs, and scheduling coordinators within domestic ISO and RTO markets like ERCOT.
Predict and track curtailments, navigate shortage pricing and reliability events, and coordinate load responses with site operations.
Oversee the portfolio's load-flexibility capabilities, supporting ratepayer-protection commitments and demand-response program participation.
Manage counterparty performance and exposure under energy supply agreements (ESAs) for initial operating sites, including outage notices and availability guarantees.
Formulate the gas scheduling strategy for behind-the-meter supply, covering nominations, hub pricing, and pipeline constraints.
Build energy consumption and cost forecasts to support team visibility and finance requirements.
Supply energy-side inputs and checks to help Finance, Accounting, and Procurement Ops reconcile invoices and settlements.
Track market movements including ISO/RTO prices, scarcity conditions, and tariff rule updates, integrating findings into the availability view.
Collaborate cross-functionally with energy finance, data center operations, legal, engineering, and workload planning teams.
Build and own processes, data, and tooling for telemetry, metering, and load data validation.

Requirements

Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in power scheduling, energy markets, utility operations, or energy procurement.
Hands-on background with scheduling and settlement reviews in ISO or RTO markets such as ERCOT, PJM, NYISO, or MISO.
Direct experience working at or closely with a load-management desk, retail energy provider, scheduling coordinator, QSE, or LSE.
Ability to fluently read ESAs, PPAs, and utility large-load interconnection agreements to operate scheduling and pricing terms.
Experience predicting curtailments for large loads and navigating scarcity pricing and reliability events.
Knowledge of gas scheduling mechanics, including pipeline constraints, nominations, and hub pricing.
Background in designing or operating load flexibility for large-scale consumers.
Experience building or running energy consumption and cost forecasts for large loads.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as engineering, economics, data science, finance, or energy, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to Have

Experience managing data centers or other fast-ramping loads in major ISO or RTO markets.
Familiarity with behind-the-meter, islanded, or bridge-power configurations and tolling agreements.
Knowledge of energy hedging, risk management, and fixed-price or index products.
Exposure to natural gas physical scheduling at regional basis hubs.
Experience with energy data, interval data, and metering systems.
Exposure to regulatory proceedings, utility rate cases, or public-affairs work for large-load services.

Energy market forecasting
ISO/RTO market participation (ERCOT, PJM, NYISO, MISO)
