About this role
Anthropic needs to establish robust financial infrastructure and technical accounting controls as the company scales its AI systems and commercial operations. The accounting team requires a senior leader to own complex ASC 606 positions, guide revenue recognition for new product offerings, and navigate intricate partnership and marketplace arrangements.
In this capacity, the Director of Technical Revenue Accounting will author and review technical memos, partner closely with Deal Desk, Product, Legal, and Sales, and set the overarching technical revenue policy direction. Success in this position requires deep expertise in revenue accounting standards, a history of handling complex contractual structures in technology or SaaS environments, and the ability to translate technical financial requirements into actionable guidance for non-accounting stakeholders.
What you will do
- Manage the company's ASC 606 technical accounting memo portfolio by authoring and reviewing position papers on complex revenue recognition scenarios.
- Assess new product offerings and programs to determine performance obligations, standalone selling prices, and contract modifications.
- Collaborate with Deal Desk, Sales, and Legal to structure non-standard deal terms and provide real-time revenue guidance.
- Deliver technical accounting guidance for partnership and marketplace arrangements, including principal-versus-agent determinations and reseller incentives.
- Oversee foundational accounting processes such as standalone selling price analysis, credit amortization, and footnote disclosures.
- Lead technical research on emerging revenue issues and present recommendations directly to the Controller.
- Review month-end close journal entries, manage system implementation projects, and drive continuous process improvements.
What you need
- Demonstrated track record of authoring technical accounting memos on complex revenue arrangements.
- Strong knowledge of ASC 606 standards including performance obligation analysis, standalone selling prices, and contract modifications.
- Hands-on experience working with revenue recognition tools such as Workday Financial Management or Zuora RevPro.
- SQL proficiency for querying and analyzing large revenue and contract datasets.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional workstreams across legal, product, and sales teams.
- Minimum of 14 years of progressive accounting experience with specialized expertise in complex revenue recognition.

- Big 4 technical accounting or national office background

What is the compensation range for this position?
The annual salary range for this role is $230,000 to $300,000 USD.
