About this role

Data Center Engineer, Reliability & Infrastructure Management – Compute Supply is a full-time position based in San Francisco, California or New York City, New York, focusing on the intersection of IT and facilities. This role suits infrastructure professionals who want to build power models, availability models, and topology requirements to operate physical data center envelopes efficiently.

Role Overview

As a Data Center Engineer for Reliability and Infrastructure Management at Anthropic, the employee works at the intersection of IT and facilities. Responsibilities include building power models, availability models, topology, and load management requirements to operate physical infrastructure efficiently. The work shapes site leasing choices, SLA agreements, workload placement, and capacity oversubscription across locations.

Key Responsibilities

Own the power and cooling topology of the infrastructure fleet as a living dataset, validating telemetry against physical building behavior and defining load management under failure conditions across chips and capacity providers.
Build and audit availability models for electrical and mechanical data center systems, establishing Cloud availability zones and failure domains from individual sites to the entire fleet.
Construct power draw models from chip to rack to facility by workload and hardware generation, using them to set capacity planning targets, design envelopes, and load forecasting.
Conduct technical diligence with data center developers, operators, cloud providers, and chip vendors to improve designs and maintain SLA-grade performance.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Power Systems, Reliability Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field.
Five or more years of experience in data center infrastructure, facility engineering, or reliability engineering.
Demonstrated experience with data center power distribution and cooling system architectures, alongside infrastructure failure mode management.
Practical experience building quantitative reliability models, power forecasts, or software-based power management and control systems.
Track record of cross-functional collaboration across hardware, software, and facilities teams.

Nice to Have

Experience in multiple focus areas including reliability engineering, power modeling, and load management.
Experience with accelerator-class deployments, rack power architectures, and power management interfaces.
Background in integrated systems testing and commissioning or writing sequences of operation.
Experience with SLA development, availability commitments, energy storage, microgrid integration, demand response, or behind-the-meter generation.
