Role Overview
The Data Center Electrical Engineer leads the electrical design of physical infrastructure across the United States portfolio for Anthropic. This remote-friendly position suits an experienced professional with a deep background in mission-critical facilities who wants to support frontier AI model training and serving.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the electrical design of critical data center equipment across the US portfolio, including utility interfaces, substations, medium- and high-voltage infrastructure, generators, uninterruptible power supplies, switchgear, transformers, and grounding systems.
Develop and maintain electrical basis of design, reference architectures, and technical specifications for critical power distribution.
Perform and validate engineering studies such as short-circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, load flow, and power quality analysis.
Drive the prefabricated and modular electrical strategy by developing modular skids, e-houses, and prefabricated power assemblies to compress schedules and reduce onsite labor.
Review and approve electrical design packages, submittals, and shop drawings from build partners and MEP consultants.
Work with local utilities, transmission operators, and agencies having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with relevant electrical codes and standards.
Collaborate with hardware, compute, and supply chain teams to translate accelerator requirements into electrical design criteria and qualify regional equipment vendors.
Coordinate and oversee the implementation of data center infrastructure with vendors, contractors, and internal teams during construction and commissioning.
Requirements
Minimum of 10 years of electrical engineering experience in mission-critical facilities, focusing on data center or high-availability electrical distribution design.
Deep familiarity with US electrical codes and standards, including NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, IEEE standards, and UL/ANSI equipment standards.
Hands-on experience with prefabricated and modular data center electrical infrastructure.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
Experience producing and interpreting electrical construction documents, single-line diagrams, data center schematics, and technical layouts.
Strong knowledge of rack layout, structured cabling, power distribution, and cooling infrastructure.
Fluency in power systems analysis and critical power topologies.
Nice to Have
Direct project experience delivering data centers in multiple US markets such as Virginia, Texas, Arizona, Ohio, or Oregon.
Track record building modular prefabricated products in electrical or mechanical areas of the data center.
Background in medium- or high-voltage distribution, on-site generation, or energy storage integration.
Exposure to liquid-cooled infrastructure and its implications for electrical room layout and load distribution.
Prior work at a hyperscaler, colocation provider, or MEP consultancy serving large data center clients.
Skills and Tools
Power systems analysis tools including SKM, ETAP, and EasyPower
National Electrical Code (NFPA 70/NEC) and NFPA 70E compliance
IEEE standards for arc flash and color books
UL and ANSI equipment standards for switchgear
Prefabricated modular skid and e-house design methodologies
Critical power topologies including 2N, N+1, and distributed redundant architectures
