About this role

Anthropic builds reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems designed to be safe and beneficial for society. The team seeks a Corporate Finance and Strategy partner to join the Public Benefit and Global Affairs functions, operating as the main financial lead for philanthropic giving, grants, direct programs, and policy engagement worldwide. Responsibilities include shaping early-stage budgets, designing funding structures, managing multi-year planning, and helping leaders evaluate tradeoffs where outcomes extend beyond standard revenue metrics.

Candidates should combine strong corporate financial planning and analysis capabilities with familiarity regarding philanthropic funding mechanisms, foundations, and grantmaking regulations. The position suits a practitioner who enjoys ambiguity, communicates clearly with diverse stakeholders, and relies on data to guide strategic decision-making while supporting the company's broader AI safety mission.

What you will do

  • Act as the primary finance partner for Public Benefit and Global Affairs leaders by collaborating on the financial aspects of their respective programs.
  • Manage annual planning, in-year forecasting, and multi-year planning across the giving and policy portfolio to translate strategy into concrete resource allocations.
  • Establish and run stage-gated funding models that incorporate tranche releases, graduation criteria, and ongoing tracking.
  • Oversee the financial planning for strategic commitments such as grants, loans, foundation funding, and in-kind contributions alongside Legal, Tax, Corporate Development, and Accounting teams.
  • Present funding recommendations and strategic tradeoffs to executive leadership while defining non-revenue outcome metrics with program leaders.
  • Build spend categorization systems, project codes, workflows, and external reporting mechanisms that scale alongside the programs.

What you need

  • Demonstrated experience in FP&A or strategic finance, ideally within a high-growth company or foundation with a focus on philanthropy, social impact, or global affairs.
  • Professional background involving grants, philanthropy, or impact-investing finance.
  • Advanced financial modeling abilities using spreadsheets to construct budgets, forecasts, and multi-year plans from scratch.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills capable of conveying complex financial concepts to executives, policy staff, program leaders, and external partners.
  • Ability to push back constructively using data and sound reasoning while maintaining comfort with ambiguity and a bias toward action.
  • A demonstrated commitment to Anthropic's mission of building safe, beneficial AI systems.

Nice to have

  • 10+ years of experience in FP&A or strategic finance
  • Experience building stage-gated or milestone-based funding frameworks
  • Fluency in ERP, procurement, or finance systems

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation
  • Optional equity donation matching
  • Generous vacation
  • Parental leave
