About this role
Delivering next-generation AI supercomputing infrastructure requires heavy mechanical equipment to be precisely positioned and secured during rapid data center buildouts. To solve this logistical challenge, xAI is hiring a Construction Rigger to support the physical expansion of high-performance computing facilities in Memphis and Southaven.
This hands-on contributor will plan lifts, operate heavy rigging hardware, and land critical data center machinery alongside mechanical, structural, and electrical teams. The ideal person for this position possesses extensive industrial rigging experience, a rigorous safety mindset, and the flexibility to travel extensively to active construction sites while maintaining strict operational standards.
What you will do
- Plan and execute complex lifts using mobile and tower cranes, forklifts, gantries, and hoisting equipment.
- Inspect, select, and install slings, shackles, and spreader bars while confirming working load limits.
- Signal crane and forklift operators and manage communication for the duration of every pick.
- Crib, block, roll, and land heavy mechanical gear such as pumps, cooling towers, and air handlers.
- Maintain an orderly rigging crib and laydown yard by keeping damaged or unlabeled gear out of service.
- Follow lock-out/tag-out, personal protective equipment rules, and site-specific safety protocols without exception.
What you need
- Three or more years of journey-level industrial or commercial construction rigging experience.
- Completion of a recognized rigger or ironworker apprenticeship, or equivalent military experience.
- Ability to travel extensively to data center construction sites and remain onsite during peak phases.
- Capability to work in heavy industrial environments, climb ladders, and lift moderate loads while wearing personal protective equipment.
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
Nice to have
- NCCCO Rigger certification (Level I or II)
- Qualified signal person certification
- Forklift, aerial lift, or scissor lift certification
- OSHA 10 or equivalent training
