About this role
This role addresses the need to ensure the safe, reliable, and high-quality deployment of electrical systems supporting SpaceXAI's next-generation AI supercomputing infrastructure. The team is focused on engineering excellence within a small, highly motivated organization, requiring employees to be hands-on and directly contribute to the company’s mission. This position exists to execute the full lifecycle of electrical system commissioning, from buildout and startup through to final handover, ensuring all critical infrastructure meets stringent performance and safety standards.
The Commissioning Engineer will be responsible for testing, troubleshooting, and validating complex electrical components such as switchgear, UPS systems, generators, and busways in hyperscale data center environments. This involves close collaboration with various stakeholders, including construction teams, engineering, and vendors, to guarantee system integrity. The role demands a strong work ethic, excellent prioritization skills, and the ability to communicate technical information clearly to teammates.
Successful candidates will thrive in an environment that values initiative and consistent delivery of excellence. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys deep technical problem-solving and thrives on ensuring mission-critical systems operate flawlessly under demanding conditions. This role is suited for an individual who is proactive, safety-conscious, and capable of managing complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
What you will do
- Execute all electrical commissioning activities for MV/LV switchgear, generators, UPS systems, PDUs, ATS/STS, transformers, relays, busway, and associated controls in hyperscale data center environments.
- Perform functional performance testing, pre-functional testing, site acceptance testing, load-bank testing, protection-relay testing, integrated system testing, and system turnover to operations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical, controls, and process issues encountered during the pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup phases.
- Develop and review detailed commissioning test procedures, scripts, checklists, and documentation that align with project specifications and SpaceXAI requirements.
- Coordinate with EPC contractors, OEM vendors, design engineers, and SpaceXAI stakeholders for system energization and integrated system validation.
- Champion safety by enforcing strict adherence to LOTO, NFPA, OSHA, and SpaceXAI safety protocols.
- Maintain comprehensive as-built documentation, test records, issue logs, and final commissioning reports.
- Support and deliver training programs for operations and maintenance teams on the commissioned systems.
What you need
- A Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is required.
- Candidates must possess at least five years of experience in commissioning for electrical systems.
- A working knowledge of commissioning test equipment, such as power analyzers, insulation testers, and load banks, is necessary.
- Familiarity with relevant codes and standards, including NEC, NFPA 70/70B/70E, IEEE, NETA, NESC, and Uptime Institute, is required.
- The ability to read, interpret, and redline electrical drawings, one-lines, three-lines, control schematics, and sequence of operations is essential.
- Experience coordinating with multi-discipline teams, contractors, and vendors in construction settings is necessary.
- Demonstrated experience with various commissioning phases, including functional performance testing and system turnover, is required.
- Hands-on experience with EPMS, BMS/BAS, and power-system controls troubleshooting and integration (Modbus, BACnet, etc.) is preferred.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of refrigerant systems
- Knowledge of direct liquid cooling
- Current OSHA 30 certification or equivalent
- Proficiency with commissioning management platforms (CxPro, Procore, PlanGrid, or similar)
Benefits
- Willingness to travel extensively and work extended hours, nights, and weekends during critical commissioning and startup windows.
