Notion is seeking a seasoned attorney for the Commercial Counsel role based in San Francisco, California, with hybrid work expectations. This senior position suits an experienced legal professional who wants to drive revenue deals and handle complex enterprise transactions in a collaborative AI workspace environment.

Key Responsibilities

Handle broad responsibilities for negotiating SaaS AI agreements and delivering day-to-day commercial legal support focused on the Enterprise segment within the Americas region.
Assist sales, marketing, channels, and customer success teams with strategic legal guidance.
Work alongside the Product Legal team on operational and product matters affecting customer contracts and go-to-market strategies.
Draft and negotiate sophisticated agreements regarding AI regulatory matters, security, and privacy.
Discover and pursue process improvements independently for buy-side supporting operations.
Create, update, and refine contract playbooks and templates in response to shifts in laws, organization structure, and product offerings.

Requirements

Admitted to either the California State Bar, New York State Bar, or registered as an in-house counsel in good standing.
Ten or more years of combined experience practicing as a commercial attorney in a software technology company or law firm.
Minimum of two years of in-house legal experience at an artificial intelligence and/or SaaS technology company.
Subject matter expertise in privacy and artificial intelligence, covering privacy rules like CCPA and GDPR, plus AI regulations like the EU AI Act.
Demonstrated background in managing enterprise B2B transactions, SaaS deals, and commercial contracts.
Strong negotiation skills capable of translating complex legal ideas into clear terms for diverse audiences.
Excellent written, verbal, and drafting communication abilities, providing pragmatic and balanced legal solutions.
Ability to establish trusted relationships directly with internal and external leaders.
Personal curiosity regarding artificial intelligence with a willingness to adopt AI tools for enhanced productivity.
Exceptional resilience, resourcefulness, independent strategic thinking, and teamwork qualities.

Nice to Have

Certified Information Privacy Professional designation or equivalent credentials.
Prior professional background working within a rapidly growing technology company.
Experience supporting reseller and channel partnerships.
Background supporting enterprise customers in the financial services sector.
Prior familiarity utilizing Notion.
