Role Overview

UpGuard is seeking a Chief Information Security Officer to lead the entire enterprise technology stack, combining security, infrastructure, identity, and workplace technology into a single accountability. This full-time leadership position is based in Sydney with remote-friendly work options, suiting an experienced operations and infrastructure expert who thrives in a lean, high-growth environment. Candidates will report directly to the CEO, overseeing a talented team and serving as customer zero for UpGuard's Cyber Risk Posture Management platform.

Key Responsibilities

Own the full technology and security remit spanning enterprise infrastructure, security, identity, applications, and workplace technology without handoffs.
Lead and grow three core functions consisting of IT Operations, Security Operations, Cloud Platform Engineering, and GRC.
Mature security operations by driving investment into Google SecOps and n8n automation platforms to enhance detection, analytics, and response.
Manage end-to-end identity access management across GCP projects, enterprise governance, and global workforce administration.
Oversee the network and cloud perimeter using Zero Trust Network Access and GCP perimeter security.
Direct global end-user compute operations, managing a predominantly macOS fleet alongside ChromeOS and managed browsers for BYOD.
Supervise technology and physical security services for current and future office workspaces.
Guide the compliance program, maintaining SOC-2 Type II standards while targeting ISO 27001 for European growth.
Act as customer zero by utilizing the UpGuard platform heavily and feeding operating experiences back into Product, Sales, and Customer Success teams.
Communicate regularly at the executive level, briefing the Steering Committee and Board while representing security to customers.

Requirements

Strong infrastructure and operations foundation with extensive background running data centers or substantial operations functions.
Process discipline gained from consequential environments where failure carried real consequences.
Demonstrated ability to achieve results with lean resources, preferring automation over expanding headcount.
Comfort maintaining joint ownership of infrastructure, security, applications, and identity.
Hands-on technical credibility to architect controls, review Terraform changes, or lead incident responses directly.
Cloud-native depth with substantial GCP experience or deep architectural instincts in AWS or Azure.
Prior accountability for leading a compliance program such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001 through audits.
Ability to absorb context rapidly, operating with high self-direction, personal drive, and energy in a fast-paced setting.
