Role Overview
As a Backend Engineer at Loora, the professional will shape the architecture and development of an AI-powered language learning platform. This individual will design and implement backend systems that impact millions of learners worldwide. Responsibilities include creating scalable services that support real-time AI conversations while ensuring low-latency performance and reliability for the next generation of language learning tools.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend services and APIs using REST and gRPC to power AI-driven conversational experiences.
Build and optimize asynchronous Python applications capable of handling real-time audio and text processing at scale.
Ensure seamless, low-latency integration between mobile and web clients and the AI backend platform.
Drive key technical decisions regarding system architecture with a focus on low latency and fault-tolerance.
Collaborate closely with AI, ML, mobile, DevOps, and product teams to deliver complete end-to-end solutions.
Work within CI/CD workflows to ensure smooth deployments and maintain rigorous code quality standards.
Optimize system performance and resource utilization while upholding reliability service-level agreements for a growing user base.
Requirements
Minimum of 7 years of professional experience designing and developing scalable, distributed backend systems in modern programming languages, with Python considered a strong advantage.
Deep expertise in Python concurrency and execution models including asyncio, multiprocessing, threading, GIL, WSGI, and ASGI.
Proven track record of building production-ready asynchronous Python applications that serve high-volume traffic.
Strong practical experience with Pydantic and FastAPI in production environments.
Expertise in designing and implementing RESTful APIs and gRPC services with a focus on versioning and compatibility.
Demonstrated ability to solve complex challenges related to performance, scalability, and workload distribution.
Proficiency working with relational and non-relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Redis, DynamoDB, and MongoDB, encompassing query optimization and data modeling.
Experience utilizing event-driven architectures and message queuing systems like Kafka, RabbitMQ, or AWS SQS.
Hands-on proficiency with Docker, continuous integration and deployment pipelines, and Kubernetes or AWS-based deployments.
Strong proficiency using AWS cloud services and cloud-native architectures.
Solid understanding of observability practices including distributed tracing, metrics, logging, and monitoring tools.
Nice to Have
Proficiency in additional backend programming languages such as Go, Rust, Java, Scala, or Kotlin.
Experience handling audio and video streaming protocols alongside real-time communication systems.
Familiarity with dataframe libraries like Pandas, Polars, or Daft for data processing and analytics.
Exposure to LLM integration libraries including LiteLLM, LangChain, Guidance, and Instructor, as well as AI model serving frameworks.
Background in developing data-driven applications, pipelines, or ETL processes using Apache Spark or Flink alongside orchestration tools like Airflow or Dagster.
Active contributions to open-source software projects on GitHub.
