About this role

Training models to distinguish mediocre visual output from clear, functional design requires specialized human judgment rather than software engineering. This remote international role exists to improve Grok's understanding of design contexts by providing high-quality data annotations, evaluations, and reference examples across graphic design, UI/UX, web design, and illustration. The person in this position will directly assess generative outputs and write precise critiques to establish a high bar for design quality.

Team members operate in a flat organizational structure with a focus on engineering excellence, strong prioritization, and concise communication. Candidates who thrive in this environment possess a sharp eye for visual fundamentals, demonstrated design excellence in at least one professional discipline, and the ability to articulate design rationale clearly.

What you will do

  • Evaluate design outputs across various formats, including visual assets, layouts, documents, websites, interactive prototypes, and games.
  • Distinguish weak design from clear, functional, and well-resolved work by identifying issues that look attractive but fail in practical use.
  • Refine, restyle, or recreate outputs that fall short to produce exceptionally strong examples.
  • Write precise, well-reasoned annotations and critiques that explain the difference between mediocre, good, and excellent design.
  • Contribute to high-quality datasets that span graphic design, interface design, web experiences, and game feel.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on evaluation tasks, rubrics, and standards that set a high bar for design quality.
  • Work across a wide range of briefs and styles while maintaining consistent quality and judgment.

What you need

  • Demonstrated design excellence in at least one professional discipline such as graphic design, brand or visual design, product or UI/UX design, web design, game design, or illustration.
  • Provide a portfolio showcasing strong taste and finished, high-quality work through a personal site, Behance, Dribbble, ArtStation, shipped product, or published work.
  • Possess a sharp eye for design fundamentals including visual hierarchy, typography, spacing, color, composition, consistency, and clarity of communication.
  • Ability to evaluate design quality outside of a primary specialty and clearly state what works, what does not, and why.
  • Maintain fluency in English with excellent written communication skills for critiques, annotations, and design rationale.
  • Demonstrate high attention to detail and comfort working from evolving instructions in a fast-paced evaluation setting.
  • Show comfort in creating high-quality reference examples rather than only scoring existing ones.

Nice to have

  • Strength across more than one design domain
  • Experience shipping or professionally reviewing websites, product interfaces, or games
  • Familiarity with accessibility and inclusive design principles
  • Working knowledge of modern design tools such as Figma or Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Experience with generative AI design tools and prior experience in design critique, art direction, or AI evaluation

Benefits

  • Health insurance
  • 401(k) plan
  • Paid sick leave
