About this role
Engineers who thrive on building foundational infrastructure and scaling high-performance engineering organizations will find a compelling challenge in this role. As the founding Vice President of AI Platform, you will lead the technical rails that power an engineering organization where the vast majority of production code is AI-assisted. This position exists to unify technical strategy across the enterprise, ensuring that various teams do not build fragmented, bespoke plumbing while trying to scale agentic workflows and developer velocity. You will inherit an established founding team that includes architectural leadership and product operations support, allowing you to begin hands-on architecture before expanding the team through strategic hiring.
Operating as part of a coequal leadership triad, you will collaborate closely with peers leading applied AI and workforce transformation to prioritize the enterprise roadmap. Success in this position requires a blend of deep technical command over large language models, agent frameworks, and evaluation infrastructure, paired with the executive maturity to align cross-functional peers. Leaders who enjoy establishing clear technical standards, driving developer experience, and building reliable systems that other engineers depend on will find a natural home here.
What you will do
- Establish and scale the core AI platform rails, including the LLM gateway, agent framework, evaluation infrastructure, and prompt libraries.
- Drive the developer experience and Velocity program by implementing coding agents, testing frameworks, and coverage gates that support autonomous code merging.
- Rebuild product operations as an autonomous software function by delivering automated reporting, gap analysis, and maturity scorecards.
- Manage automation engineering, shared APIs, orchestration, and the AI data consumable layer such as retrieval and RAG infrastructure.
- Partner with security and IT to embed monitoring, cost controls, and safety postures directly into the platform architecture by default.
- Enforce a single, enterprise-wide technical stack to prevent the creation of parallel or forked plumbing across different business domains.
- Hire, level, and grow senior engineering talent while scaling the platform organization through a Director and principal engineers.
What you need
- Bring fifteen or more years of experience in software or platform engineering, featuring at least five years leading engineering teams or organizations.
- Accumulate eight or more years of experience building platforms or infrastructure systems that other engineering teams depend on.
- Demonstrate three or more years of hands-on work with production artificial intelligence and machine learning systems, including large language models, agents, and evaluation.
- Possess deep technical command over the production realities of AI systems, such as latency, cost management, reliability, and safety controls.
- Maintain the capability to personally architect and ship core platform services during the founding phase rather than solely directing others.
- Show proven executive influence with the ability to partner on technical strategy and drive alignment across functional leadership peers.
