About this role

Vice President, AI Data is a senior engineering leadership position based in London, United Kingdom that suits an experienced technical leader focused on data strategy for autonomous driving technology. This role requires defining how data drives model performance and leading multidisciplinary teams within a hybrid work environment.

Role Overview

Vice President, AI Data at Wayve is a senior engineering leadership role responsible for the end-to-end data strategy powering autonomous driving systems. Operating in London, the person in this position will shape how data is acquired, processed, and translated into measurable improvements in model performance across foundation models and production programmes. This role involves directing data architecture across multiple vehicle platforms, sensors, and global geographies while collaborating closely with AI, Science, Validation, Product, Compute, and commercial teams.

Key Responsibilities

Own the complete data strategy across the AI learning cycle, determining data requirements to drive model performance from foundation training to specialized capabilities.
Build the data flywheel by managing the learning loop from real-world signals and model behavior through discovery, curation, enrichment, and training.
Develop intelligent approaches for discovering rare, surprising, and safety-critical scenarios in massive datasets utilizing embeddings, semantic search, and model-driven selection.
Define methods for collecting, buying, generating, and enriching data across internal fleets, original equipment manufacturer programmes, partners, and external sources.
Connect data investments to model performance by establishing value metrics and balancing quality, accuracy, speed, cost, and scale.
Scale the global data strategy to support multiple vehicle platforms, sensor configurations, geographies, and regulatory environments.
Build and lead a multidisciplinary Data organisation while partnering with internal engineering, science, finance, and commercial divisions.

Requirements

Significant engineering leadership experience with a track record of building and managing high-performing technical teams.
Deep technical expertise in computer vision, video, multimodal artificial intelligence, or related perception challenges.
Experience leading large-scale data capabilities that directly impact model training, evaluation, and performance.
Strong intuition for data value, including data discovery, selection, curation, and enrichment at scale.
Strong technical and commercial judgement to balance trade-offs across quality, speed, cost, scale, and build-versus-partner decisions.
Capability to navigate ambiguity, shift between high-level strategy and technical details, and influence senior technical and business stakeholders.

Nice to Have

Background in autonomous driving, robotics, or embodied artificial intelligence.
Experience with large-scale video, multimodal, or foundation model training.
Familiarity with semantic search, embeddings, active learning, auto-labelling, or intelligent data selection.
Experience managing large-scale real-world data acquisition across fleets, customers, partners, or international geographies.
