Role Overview

Nectar is seeking a Tech Lead Manager in Palo Alto, CA to own technical vision and execution for core engineering teams. This hybrid role suits an experienced engineer with a product mindset who wants to drive the architecture of an AI-native social operating system.

Key Responsibilities

Define technical roadmaps, system design, and architectural standards for the product domain.
Write production code, conduct code reviews, and solve complex technical bottlenecks.
Partner with Product and Design teams to scope features and evaluate feasibility.
Mentor engineers, foster software craftsmanship, and raise technical bars.
Participate in customer calls to understand user needs and product usage.
Establish engineering standards, testing strategies, CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring processes.
Conduct technical interviews and evaluate engineering talent.
Manage a team of two to five direct reports, handling one-on-ones, performance reviews, and career growth planning.

Requirements

Eight or more years of total software engineering experience.
Two or more years of formal people management experience leading direct reports on high-performing teams.
Full-stack technical mastery with strong architectural intuition.
Strong product acumen and ability to prioritize work based on customer impact.
Experience collaborating closely with Product Managers and Designers in fast-paced environments.
Comfort operating in high-growth, ambiguous startup settings with a bias toward action.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for translating technical concepts.
Active hands-on experience or deep interest in LLMs, AI agents, and AI workflows.

Nice to Have

Prior experience in early or growth-stage startups.
Hands-on experience architecting AI-powered or agentic software platforms at scale.
Familiarity with React, TypeScript, AWS, Pulumi, Postgres, ClickHouse, or Turbopuffer.
Technical leadership experience shipping mobile products using React Native.
