About this role
Engineers who thrive on translating complex orbital mechanics and spacecraft design problems into robust production code will find a natural home in this role. The defense AI company builds software and systems designed to protect democracies, operating across European hubs in Munich, Berlin, and Paris. Day-to-day responsibilities involve running mission analysis, managing system budgets, building internal tooling, and acting as a technical authority on satellite architectures all the way through to flight stages. This position exists to shape constellation programs and drive trade studies that balance unique technical constraints with rigorous ethical considerations. Candidates who succeed here bring advanced academic backgrounds in aerospace or physics combined with production-grade software engineering experience in shared codebases.
What you will do
- Run mission analysis for constellation design covering orbit selection, coverage, launch, and disposal.
- Own requirements flowdown, system budgets, and interface management across segments.
- Build and maintain production-grade analysis tooling relied upon by the rest of the team.
- Act as the technical expert for satellite system design and underlying subsystems.
- Drive trade studies across subsystems and segments to evaluate design trade-offs.
- Present analytical results and technical findings to internal teams, partners, and customers.
What you need
- Hold a master's or PhD in aerospace engineering, physics, or a related discipline with hands-on work on at least one flown or near-flight space program.
- Demonstrate fluency in orbit mechanics and mission analysis using tools such as GMAT, FreeFlyer, STK, or Orekit.
- Possess a working grasp of spacecraft systems engineering across requirements, budgets, interfaces, and verification.
- Show recognized depth in at least one subsystem such as AOCS, GNC, propulsion, power, thermal, or TT&C and RF.
- Bring several years of production-grade software engineering experience within a large, shared codebase involving code reviews and testing.
- Program proficiently in Python alongside at least one of Rust or modern C++.
- Demonstrate strong mathematics and physics knowledge including linear algebra, numerical methods, and error budgets.
Nice to have
- Optimization background covering convex methods, heuristics, or trajectory optimization
- Model-based systems engineering experience with SysML, Capella, or digital twins
- Machine learning applied to engineering problems like surrogate models
- Earth observation, SAR, or ISR mission experience
- Familiarity with ECSS standards and requirements management tooling
Benefits
- Competitive salary and VSOP options
- Relocation support up to €2,500 and 4 weeks temporary accommodation
- Learning allowance of €500 yearly
- Health and wellness support including gym membership and mental health resources
- Enhanced parental leave of 22 weeks fully paid for primary caregivers and 6 weeks for secondary caregivers
- Family support including 5 days of paid family emergency leave
