Staff Technical Program Manager- Security
About this role
This role addresses the need to establish and execute technical programs that safeguard Databricks' platform integrity, user identity, and data privacy at a massive scale. The Staff Technical Program Manager for Trust & Safety Engineering will be responsible for driving the technical execution of infrastructure initiatives related to authentication, access control, and anomaly detection. This involves collaborating closely with Security Engineering, Identity Infrastructure, Machine Learning, and Core Platform teams to deploy systems that enforce identity integrity and prevent platform abuse.
The core function of this position is to bridge the gap between security principles—such as privacy-by-design and threat mitigation models—and concrete technical specifications and execution roadmaps. The individual will translate complex identity protocols and security requirements into actionable plans, focusing heavily on resolving intricate engineering dependencies across multiple teams. Success in this role requires a focus on technical execution, ensuring that scalable systems are delivered that maintain robust security posture.
This role is ideal for an individual who thrives on strategic thinking, has deep technical literacy in distributed systems and security, and can influence design decisions proactively. Candidates should excel at defining metrics, communicating program health to both technical and executive audiences, and fostering a culture of security by default across engineering teams.
What you will do
- Define, articulate, and own the security program strategy and roadmap, ensuring alignment with Databricks’ business and product goals.
- Drive initiatives across Identity Infrastructure, Data Governance, Platform Security, Machine Learning, and Trust Engineering.
- Oversee the execution of complex security engineering multi-half initiatives, including areas like AuthN/AuthZ/Secret/PKI/Cryptography.
- Leverage deep technical knowledge of cloud, distributed systems, and security engineering to inform design choices and mitigate risks.
- Define and track security metrics (KPIs, OKRs), utilizing data to inform strategic decisions and measure business impact.
- Present program status, risks, and progress to executive and technical audiences to maintain transparency regarding the security posture.
What you need
- Possess proven experience leading large-scale, ambiguous security programs that span organizational boundaries, preferably in cloud-native or SaaS environments.
- Demonstrate strong strategic thinking and the capability to translate a high-level vision into concrete execution plans and alignment across senior stakeholders.
- Require deep technical literacy in IAM protocols such as OAuth 2.0/OIDC, data privacy controls, and anomaly detection systems.
- Must have the ability to develop scalable solutions, optimize processes, and promote a 'security by default' mindset among engineering teams.
- Need a data-driven approach, skilled at defining effective metrics and using resulting insights to shape strategy and demonstrate impact.
- A track record of building consensus and driving successful outcomes within a fast-paced, highly collaborative setting.
Nice to have

- Prior hands-on experience as a software, systems, or security engineer before transitioning to Technical Program Management
- Familiarity with unified data governance architectures
- Familiarity with distributed-systems security
- Familiarity with security controls supporting AI and machine-learning infrastructure
