About this role

A Staff Technical Program Manager for Trust & Safety Engineering at Databricks will be responsible for driving technical execution on infrastructure initiatives that safeguard platform integrity, user identity, and data privacy at a large scale. This role involves close collaboration with Security Engineering, Identity Infrastructure, Machine Learning, and Core Platform teams to develop and deploy systems related to authentication, access control, and anomaly detection. The core function is to translate complex identity protocols and privacy principles into clear technical specifications and actionable execution roadmaps. This position exists to ensure the reliability and security of Databricks' data and AI infrastructure by preventing platform abuse and maintaining data privacy standards.

The ideal candidate thrives on technical execution, excels at resolving intricate engineering dependencies, and has a proven ability to deliver scalable systems that guarantee identity integrity. Success in this role requires a blend of strategic thinking—defining and owning the security program roadmap—and deep technical literacy in cloud systems and security engineering. Individuals who enjoy bridging the gap between high-level strategy and detailed technical implementation, while using data to measure impact, would perform well in this position.

What you will do

  • Define, articulate, and own the security program strategy and roadmap, ensuring alignment with Databricks’ business and product goals.
  • Drive initiatives across Identity Infrastructure, Data Governance, Platform Security, Machine Learning, and Trust Engineering.
  • Oversee the execution of complex security engineering multi-half initiatives, such as those involving AuthN/AuthZ, PKI, and Cryptography.
  • Leverage deep technical knowledge to influence design decisions and proactively identify potential risks.
  • Define and track security metrics (KPIs, OKRs) to use data for decision-making and measure business impact.
  • Present program status, risks, and progress to both executive and technical audiences to maintain transparency regarding the security posture.

What you need

  • Proven experience leading large-scale, ambiguous security programs that operate across organizational boundaries, preferably in cloud-native or SaaS environments.
  • Strong strategic thinking is required to see the big picture, translate vision into execution, and align senior stakeholders.
  • Deep technical literacy in IAM protocols like OAuth 2.0/OIDC, data privacy controls, and anomaly detection pipelines is necessary.
  • The candidate must be able to develop scalable solutions and foster a 'security by default' mindset among engineering and developer teams.
  • A data-driven approach is essential, including the skill to define effective metrics and use results to shape strategy.
  • A track record of building consensus and driving outcomes within a fast-paced, collaborative environment is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience operating in hyperscale cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Prior hands-on experience as a software, systems, or security engineer before transitioning to Technical Program Management
  • Familiarity with unified data governance architectures
  • Familiarity with distributed-systems security
  • Familiarity with security controls supporting AI and machine-learning infrastructure

Benefits

  • $189,800 — $260,900 USD
