As the first Staff Technical Program Manager, this practitioner will coordinate major initiatives across product and engineering while helping define what the TPM discipline looks like internally.
Daily responsibilities involve leading end-to-end programs such as model releases and multi-team engineering efforts, from initial scoping to final rollout. Because the role is new to the organization, the person who steps into this position will also coach upcoming team members, establish foundational structures, and partner directly with engineering leadership to maintain high team velocity.
What you will do
- Manage cross-functional programs from initial scoping through rollout and progress tracking.
- Drive major company initiatives including model launches and complex engineering efforts.
- Establish mentorship structures and coach other program managers within the growing team.
- Define the working model, organizing principles, and future growth areas for the TPM function.
- Collaborate closely with engineering leadership to maintain high team velocity and smooth cross-functional cooperation.
What you need
- Bring 8 to 10 years of prior experience in program or technical program management.
- Demonstrate strong adaptability by tailoring approaches to fit the current environment rather than relying on previous playbooks.
- Possess a clear and articulable framework for measuring and evaluating program success.
- Maintain enough technical and coding fluency to understand the underlying engineering work rather than just coordinating logistics.
Nice to have
- Track record of building a program from zero in genuine ambiguity and landing it
- Experience coaching or mentoring other program managers
- Background at a consumer tech company, a high-scale tech company, or a hypergrowth scale-up
- Experience coordinating launches for AI or ML-driven products
