Crusoe seeks a full-time Staff Software Engineer to lead distributed systems design for the Cloud Monitoring Service in San Francisco, California. This role suits an experienced engineer with a strong background in scalable telemetry systems, ready to guide technical direction and mentor team members.

Role Overview

As a key member of the Cloud Engineering department, the Staff Software Engineer will own the architecture and evolution of high-throughput, multi-tenant data pipelines. The position focuses on shaping the observability backbone of Crusoe Cloud, handling everything from edge collection to storage and query paths for large-scale AI workloads.

Key Responsibilities

Direct the architecture and scalability of large-scale telemetry pipelines, ensuring systems stay available and cost-efficient as data volume multiplies.
Solve complex multi-tenant challenges such as high-cardinality data, hot shards, noisy neighbors, and graceful degradation under heavy load.
Establish technical direction for distributed systems work, lead design reviews, and guide team members in scoping and building robust systems.
Participate in customer-facing on-call rotations and improve pipeline reliability to systematically reduce operational burden.
Collaborate across product, compute, networking, and platform teams to align observability decisions with broader technical contexts.
Coach and mentor senior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, design guidance, and incident response.

Requirements

Eight or more years of professional software development experience, featuring sustained ownership of production distributed systems.
Demonstrated hands-on expertise with sharding, replication, consistency, concurrency, and load balancing.
Strong programming fundamentals in Go or another modern compiled language, with a strong preference for Go.
Familiarity with Kubernetes, microservices, CI/CD environments, and large-scale data infrastructure like time-series databases or log aggregation.
Proven track record of cross-functional influence and driving technical outcomes across team boundaries.
