Staff Software Engineer, Cloud Infrastructure
About this role
Scaling the underlying cloud infrastructure for a high-volume financial services platform requires resolving complex challenges in reliability, automated deployment, and regulatory compliance. The Cloud Infrastructure and Platform team at Altruist addresses these needs by building and operating the AWS systems that support a modern broker-dealer platform while integrating emerging generative AI capabilities into infrastructure operations.
In this role, the engineer will architect production-grade workloads on AWS, shape Kubernetes cluster strategies, and lead cross-functional initiatives across application engineering and security teams. The position requires an experienced practitioner who can combine deep technical execution with architectural leadership, guiding both platform evolution and infrastructure security standards without relying on ticket-driven tasks.
What you will do
- Architect, deploy, and operate production AWS infrastructure supporting high-availability financial services workloads.
- Own and evolve the Infrastructure as Code strategy using Terraform across multiple engineering teams.
- Lead Kubernetes platform strategy including cluster upgrades, node group architecture, and service mesh evolution.
- Define and drive the observability strategy across the platform using tools like Datadog, Prometheus, and Grafana.
- Partner with security and compliance teams to ensure infrastructure meets regulatory requirements such as FINRA and SEC standards.
- Define the strategy for evaluating, integrating, and governing AI-powered developer tools and workloads across the engineering organization.
What you need
- Seven or more years of hands-on experience in cloud infrastructure engineering with deep, production-proven expertise in AWS.
- Track record of owning and driving infrastructure initiatives end-to-end from design and architecture through implementation and operational excellence.
- Expert-level proficiency with Terraform including module design and state management strategies.
- Demonstrated experience in Kubernetes platform strategy and container orchestration at scale.
- Background in implementing observability frameworks, disaster recovery strategies, and cloud cost optimization practices.
