Role Overview

Robinhood seeks a Staff Software Engineer to join the AI Security team and help construct foundational platform infrastructure, security primitives, and distributed systems. The position centers on the intersection of artificial intelligence, security, and distributed computing, requiring hands-on engineering focused on identity, authorization, encryption, and authentication. Candidates work closely with internal engineering and security departments to facilitate secure artificial intelligence adoption across operations.

Key Responsibilities

Design and construct a scalable platform enabling security teams to deploy, build, and run artificial intelligence-powered agents and workflows.
Develop fundamental platform services, APIs, software development kits, and libraries for security integration.
Implement secure systems featuring robust controls for identity, data protection, authentication, authorization, and encryption.
Operate and build reliable, large-scale distributed systems supporting security use cases driven by artificial intelligence.
Create guardrails and capabilities allowing teams to safely utilize artificial intelligence agents.
Collaborate with infrastructure and engineering groups to translate requirements into reusable platform functions.
Enhance platform developer experience, performance, reliability, and security through automation.
Shape the architectural and technical direction of the platform as the team scales.

Requirements

Eight or more years of software development experience.
Six or more years building large-scale distributed systems with background in security concepts like encryption, identity, authentication, or authorization.
Experience developing artificial intelligence platforms, infrastructure, or production systems supporting artificial intelligence applications and agents.
Proficiency in Python or Go, complemented by production debugging and problem-solving abilities.
Familiarity with cloud-native platforms and distributed technologies such as Kubernetes, AWS, Kafka, or gRPC.
Solid grasp of security fundamentals and integrating security into production system designs.
Experience creating reusable platform capabilities, developer tooling, libraries, or application programming interfaces.
Track record of delivering major engineering projects yielding long-term impact.

Base salary range between $230,000 and $270,000 USD for the listed locations.
