About this role

The Staff Product Manager for OpenTelemetry at Grafana Labs is a fully remote position based in the Republic of Ireland that suits an experienced product leader with a strong technical background in developer tools and observability. This role focuses on owning the end-to-end journey for users and coding agents as they instrument workloads and send useful OpenTelemetry data to Grafana Cloud.

Role Overview

As a Staff Product Manager, you will develop a vision, strategy, and cross-product roadmap to make Grafana Cloud the easiest and most trusted destination for OpenTelemetry workloads. You will act as a horizontal leader across multiple engineering teams, ensuring a coherent experience from initial onboarding to telemetry health and downstream product activation. Your scope includes SDK onboarding, automatic instrumentation, and OpenTelemetry Collector deployment, while treating both humans and coding agents as first-class participants in the experience. You will also use AI tools regularly to accelerate research, synthesize feedback, and prototype workflows.

Key Responsibilities

Define the vision, strategy, and cross-product roadmap for guiding workloads from uninstrumented states to healthy, actionable telemetry in Grafana Cloud solutions.
Identify and eliminate leading causes of setup failure, misconfiguration, abandonment, and low-quality telemetry.
Establish shared experience principles, priorities, and success criteria across contributing product and engineering teams.
Utilize customer research, product data, and market insights to prioritize investments and measure onboarding completion and time to useful telemetry.
Partner with downstream Grafana Cloud solution teams to guarantee smooth transitions from telemetry ingestion to meaningful product activation.
Collaborate with Product Marketing to define product narratives, differentiation, launches, and technical adoption programs.
Engage with and contribute to the broader OpenTelemetry ecosystem where appropriate.

Requirements

Minimum of 5 years of Product Management experience with a strong track record in developer tools, observability, infrastructure, data platforms, or technically complex B2B domains.
Experience leading strategy and execution across multiple engineering teams or product areas without direct organizational authority.
Strong working knowledge of OpenTelemetry, including SDK instrumentation, OTLP, Collector pipelines, telemetry context, and semantic conventions.
Experience using or building instrumentation systems, agents, telemetry collectors, configuration products, or related infrastructure.
Understanding of deployment and operational challenges across Kubernetes, virtual machines, and public cloud environments.
History of turning complex onboarding, configuration, and troubleshooting workflows into approachable product experiences.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills tailored for a remote, globally distributed organization.

Nice to Have

Experience contributing to or building products around the OpenTelemetry or broader open source observability ecosystem.
Familiarity with automatic instrumentation, eBPF, or runtime-based instrumentation.
Firsthand background as an SRE, platform engineer, developer, or observability practitioner.
Experience building product-led onboarding, configuration-validation, or telemetry-health experiences at scale.

Skills and Tools

OpenTelemetry SDKs and Collector pipelines
OTLP and semantic conventions
Kubernetes and public cloud environments
AI tools for customer-research synthesis and workflow exploration
Cross-functional product strategy and execution
