This role suits an experienced engineer with a strong background in GPU infrastructure who wants to drive efficiency in autonomous driving technology.

Role Overview

Wayve is hiring a Staff ML Performance Engineer to join the Performance Architecture team within the AI Performance organization. The position focuses on making artificial intelligence workloads faster and more efficient across training and cloud inference to unlock new product capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Profile machine learning workloads across training and cloud inference using system and kernel-level profilers to locate bottlenecks.
Design and implement efficiency enhancements to maximize MFU, throughput, and utilization through techniques such as parallelism, compilation, mixed precision, and caching.
Build reusable and cross-target optimizations, including custom kernels, data loaders, and frameworks like Triton, rather than relying on one-off fixes.
Develop and implement benchmarking tools to track efficiency gains and prevent regressions on key training and cloud inference workloads.
Partner with platform teams to inform cloud GPU hardware strategy and readiness.
Cultivate a performance optimization culture in collaboration with research and model teams.

Requirements

Ten or more years of industry experience leading performance engineering across machine learning systems, GPU compute infrastructure, distributed platforms, or related fields.
Experience optimizing large-scale workloads on GPU compute clusters for training, inference, or both.
Demonstrated history of writing, reporting, and tracking performance benchmarks openly and accessibly.
Proficiency in writing high-quality, well-structured, and tested Python code.
A Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

Nice to Have

Experience working with concurrent, parallel, and distributed computing.
Background in optimizing inference serving systems regarding latency, throughput, batching, and caching.
Familiarity with system profilers like NVIDIA Nsight Systems.
Practical experience implementing GPU kernels such as CUDA and Triton.
Strong understanding of computing fundamentals related to fast, secure, and reliable code.
