Role Overview

Grafana Labs is seeking a Staff Frontend Engineer to join the DataViz squad within the Grafana Frontend group. In this role, you will help build and evolve Grafana visualizations, empowering users to easily set up, understand, and extract valuable insights from their data. You will work on high-impact projects such as externalizing core visualizations to be independently releasable, developing GraphViz for visualizing relationships and flows using the Graphviz DOT language, and raising the bar on quality and reliability through advanced testing strategies. You will operate within an innovation-driven environment that embraces modern AI coding assistants and open-source values.

Key Responsibilities

Lead multi-quarter technical initiatives from initial problem framing through rollout, gathering user feedback and measuring real-world success.
Mentor and collaborate with other engineers by performing code reviews, offering design feedback, pairing on difficult problems, and raising the overall engineering standard.
Participate in on-call rotations for services you help build, acting as a force multiplier in incident response and post-incident learning.
Provide technical support during customer escalations to identify and address areas of high friction.
Collaborate across squads to write design proposals, run demos, and advocate for the team roadmap in cross-team discussions.
Leverage modern AI coding assistants to accelerate prototyping, test generation, refactoring, documentation, and incident follow-ups.

Requirements

Solid experience leading teams through projects, mentoring engineers, and acting as a force multiplier.
Strong capability to communicate clearly within a fully remote, asynchronous work environment.
Demonstrated commitment to operating the software you build, including production support, reliability, and incident response.
Experience working on complex software systems and tackling engineering challenges with minimal supervision.
A user-focused, pragmatic approach that breaks complex problems down into short feedback loops.
Familiarity with practical AI technologies and frameworks applied to real-world solutions.

Nice to Have

Open-source contribution or maintainership experience with a comfort for engaging communities in the open.
Active interest in observability and experience using tools like Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, or Tempo.
Previous background working within a fully remote, globally distributed team environment.

Compensation range in the United States is $174,986 - $209,983 USD, varying based on level, experience, and skillset.
