Role Overview
The Staff Field Engineer position at Grafana Labs is a remote opportunity based in the Netherlands that suits an experienced technical expert looking to drive strategic customer engagements and empower internal teams. This role operates with minimal supervision to support complex deals, mentor colleagues, and build scalable technical infrastructure across a fully managed observability platform.
Key Responsibilities
Advise on and support strategic customer deals and complex technical challenges alongside Solution Engineers and Observability Architects without direct supervision.
Serve as a recognized subject matter expert in a core area of the Grafana Platform while maintaining deep knowledge across multiple related technologies.
Create and curate end-to-end technical training content, including workshops, how-to guides, and demo scripts for product areas.
Architect, engineer, and maintain a live production environment supporting reliable and secure demo, workshop, and POV infrastructure at scale.
Act as a key influencer in product direction, helping customers adopt newer technologies and representing Field Engineering in product planning cycles.
Present at strategic marketing events such as panels, webinars, conferences, and blogs as an organizational ambassador.
Provide technical guidance, best practices, and product documentation improvements to customers and internal teams.
Mentor senior and staff solution engineers and field engineers to elevate team performance.
Requirements
Minimum of 8 years of related technical experience, including at least 2 years in a senior field engineer role or equivalent capacity as an SRE, developer, architect, or successful presales solution architect.
Excellent understanding of Grafana and associated technologies, backed by recognized subject matter expert depth in at least one area of the platform.
Deep working knowledge across multiple technologies in the observability space such as Grafana, Loki, Prometheus, Tempo, Elastic, Splunk, or Datadog.
Expert-level knowledge in at least one adjacent domain beyond the core observability stack, such as IoT or AI/ML, and demonstrated domain knowledge across the broader Grafana ecosystem.
Experience creating and maintaining at least one product training asset adopted by a broader technical field organization.
Demonstrated experience partnering cross-functionally with product management and engineering to produce and maintain field-facing enablement content.
Comfort with at least one modern programming language and a strong understanding of the modern software development lifecycle, including debugging and investigation.
Working familiarity with Linux and common tooling.
Practical experience using AI tools to generate and review code to accelerate day-to-day tasks while retaining full ownership of final quality criteria.
Ability to architect a modern application on primary cloud providers like AWS, Azure, or GCP, utilizing Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
Proven track record of building and delivering strategic technical content for technical audiences, including complex proofs of concept.
Deep understanding of the sales process with the ability to anticipate and proactively address challenges in strategic sales cycles.

Salary and Benefits
In the Netherlands, the OTE compensation range for this role is 137,000 EUR to 165,000 EUR, varying based on level, experience, and skillset.
Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) are included with the role to provide team ownership in company success.
Global annual leave policy of 30 days per annum, which includes 3 reserved Grafana Shutdown Days.
In-person onboarding experience for new team members.
