Role Overview

The Field Engineering team operates closely with Presales Solution Engineering, Product, and Marketing to provide essential tools, collateral, and subject matter expertise. As a Staff Field Engineer at Grafana Labs, the individual is recognized as part of the top 20 percent of the field team. Working with minimal supervision, this role handles the most strategic customer engagements, shapes product direction, and mentors senior team members. Grafana Labs functions as a fully remote organization with team members across more than 40 countries, providing an innovation-driven environment rooted in open-source values.

Key Responsibilities

Advise on and support strategic deals and customer engagements, collaborating on complex technical challenges without supervision.
Serve as a recognized subject matter expert in one area of the Grafana Platform while maintaining deep knowledge across multiple technologies.
Create and curate end-to-end technical training content, including workshops, how-to guides, and demo scripts.
Architect, engineer, and maintain a live production environment supporting demos, workshops, and proof-of-concept infrastructure at scale.
Act as a key influencer in product direction, representing field engineering in planning cycles to address enablement gaps.
Present at strategic marketing events, webinars, conferences, and panels as a company ambassador.
Mentor senior and staff solution engineers and field engineers.

Requirements

Minimum of 8 years of related technical experience, including at least 2 years in a senior field engineer role or equivalent as an SRE, developer, architect, or presales solution architect.
Excellent understanding of Grafana and associated technologies with subject matter expert depth in at least one area of the platform.
Deep working knowledge across multiple technologies within the observability space, such as Loki, Prometheus, Tempo, Elastic, Splunk, or Datadog.
Expert-level knowledge in an adjacent domain like IoT or AI/ML, alongside demonstrated knowledge across the broader Grafana ecosystem.
Experience creating and maintaining at least one product training asset adopted by a technical field organization.
Comfort with at least one modern programming language and strong understanding of the software development lifecycle.
Working familiarity with Linux and practical experience using AI tools to accelerate day-to-day tasks while retaining final quality control.
Ability to architect modern applications on AWS, Azure, or GCP using infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, and microservices.

Salary and Benefits

On-target earnings compensation range in Germany is EUR 137,000 to EUR 164,000, varying based on level, experience, and skillset.
Restricted Stock Units provided for company ownership.

In-person onboarding program.
