Role Overview

Defense is hiring a full-time Staff Engineer, Platform for the Forge department based in San Diego, California. This position involves shaping the platform solutions and infrastructure that drive Forge, the AI Factory, to support intelligent defense systems.

Key Responsibilities

Define the architecture for platform solutions and infrastructure supporting the Forge AI Factory.
Implement production software and establish reusable operational patterns for distributed runtimes.
Partner collaboratively across autonomy, machine learning, simulation, test, infrastructure, and product engineering teams.
Balance developer productivity, system reliability, extensibility, performance, portability, and long-term operational maintainability.

Requirements

Experience building Kubernetes-native capabilities supporting autonomy development, simulation, testing, training, evaluation, deployment, and operational workflows.
Proven background working across commercial cloud, on-premises infrastructure, sovereign deployments, edge environments, and fully air-gapped systems.
Ability to handle a hands-on technical leadership position involving distributed runtime orchestration and data processing.
