Role Overview

Shield AI seeks Autonomous Software Engineers to start full-time employment after graduation in 2027. Selected candidates collaborate with experienced engineering teams to build software features, write embedded firmware, and develop tools that support advanced uncrewed aerial vehicles.

Key Responsibilities

Build, test, and ship features and tools using C++ and Python alongside experienced staff.
Write embedded firmware in C or C++ for real-time software controlling UAV flight operations.
Develop Python testing utilities and reporters to validate software performance and behavior.
Design and evaluate autonomy software covering mission planning, multi-agent coordination, decision-making, and perception.
Create unit and integration tests, execute simulations, and investigate failures using telemetry and debugging utilities.
Integrate software across platform interfaces, sensors, perception products, and command systems.
Collaborate with electrical and mechanical teams to validate software requirements and technical documentation.

Requirements

Enrollment in a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD program in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
Graduation timeline between December 2026 and August 2027.
Demonstrated proficiency in C++ and/or Python programming languages.
Strong foundation in computer science fundamentals, algorithms, and data structures.
Capability to manage well-scoped tasks independently and communicate updates clearly.
Availability to work full-time in person.

Nice to Have

Practical project background from research labs, capstones, competitions, or personal builds focused on robotics, planning, controls, or machine learning.
Prior professional internship or co-op software writing background.
Knowledge of simulation platforms, ROS, ROS2, or hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop testing workflows.
Experience handling sensor inputs or multimodal AI and machine learning data.
Familiarity with Linux environments, version control tools like Git, and embedded software practices.
