Role Overview

Grafana Labs is seeking a dedicated developer to join the Databases team, specifically focusing on the Mimir Query sub-squad. The selected engineer will help maintain the Mimir open-source project and operate Grafana Cloud Metrics across major cloud providers like AWS, GCP, and Azure. Team members tackle complex challenges regarding performance, efficiency, and resilience when processing massive volumes of metrics data.

Key Responsibilities

Influence the team roadmap, design features, and guide projects from initial conception to production operations.
Build, operate, and maintain critical distributed systems with a focus on reliability, performance, and availability.
Participate in follow-the-sun on-call rotations and take ownership of running services.
Write and review pull requests, author design documents, and collaborate closely with distributed squad members.
Support automated release rollouts and contribute to open-source software outside immediate squad scopes.

Requirements

Solid experience with at least one programming language, such as Go, Python, C, C++, or Rust.
Background in leading and delivering projects from requirements gathering to customer-facing deployment.
Experience developing software running in cloud environments or working in systems engineering.
Familiarity with DevOps models, on-call participation, and writing robust, maintainable code.
Understanding of observability concepts, microservices architectures, and distributed systems.
Strong communication skills, customer focus, and a pragmatic approach to problem-solving.

Nice to Have

Experience working with Kubernetes and queue systems like the Kafka protocol.
Prior use of Grafana and Prometheus in operational roles or hobby projects.
Familiarity with infrastructure as code concepts.

Base compensation range for Canada is CAD 186,368 to CAD 223,642 per year.
