Viant Technology is seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer in Irvine or Los Angeles, California, to help evolve internal workflow and data platforms. This hands-on position suits an experienced developer who enjoys modernizing production systems and building AI-powered capabilities across the entire technology stack.

Role Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Potens team, the successful candidate will work on Magnus and Goliath, two critical internal platforms powering workflow orchestration and large-scale data exploration. This role involves modernizing mature production systems while building new AI-driven features. The engineer will operate across Java and Go backend services, browser-based JavaScript applications, data platforms, and emerging artificial intelligence technologies. Responsibilities include expanding how users and authorized AI agents interact with these platforms, from managing workflows to executing SQL and securely accessing tools.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain and modernize Magnus Java applications, REST APIs, and the Goliath JavaScript and jQuery frontend.
Build and support backend capabilities using Java and Go languages.
Develop production-ready AI features and integrations utilizing large language models, tool calling, guardrails, evaluation, and MCP.
Integrate with BigQuery, MySQL, Google Cloud Platform services, and internal APIs.
Diagnose and resolve application, workflow, database, performance, and production issues.
Construct automated tests and deliver reliable, production-quality software.
Own projects from technical proposal and implementation through deployment and ongoing support.
Participate in code reviews and contribute to solid engineering standards across the team.

Requirements

Professional software engineering experience.
Proficiency in Java, Go, JavaScript, and working with REST APIs.
Experience integrating with databases such as MySQL and BigQuery.
Ability to diagnose and resolve application, database, and production issues.
Capability to own projects end-to-end from technical design to deployment.

Nice to Have

MCP server and client development, alongside AI agent or tool-calling architectures.
Production Go development experience.
Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform and BigQuery.
Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or Google Kubernetes Engine.
MySQL performance optimization skills.
CI/CD pipeline experience using GitHub Actions.
Python development background.
Experience with Java 8, Tomcat, JSP, CodeMirror, or Chart.js.
Background in incrementally modernizing mature applications while maintaining production stability.
