Sr. Deployment Strategist, FDE - Digital Native Business
About this role
Professionals who thrive at the intersection of business strategy, product management, and technical delivery will find a natural fit within this strategic initiative sponsored by the Databricks CEO and founders. The Forward Deployed Engineering team operates directly within major customer organizations to win high-value artificial intelligence opportunities by delivering tangible business outcomes rather than just software. Team members act as the primary product owners for complex client problems, guiding initiatives from the initial sales conversation through to fully operational production environments.
In daily practice, the selected strategist bridges the gap between high-level customer challenges and the underlying technical architecture. Responsibilities include defining minimum viable products, authoring product requirements documents, scoping project value, and collaborating closely with engineering partners to unblock technical hurdles. Success in the position requires strong executive presence, rigorous product judgment, and hands-on technical fluency to navigate ambiguous environments and secure long-term adoption.
What you will do
- Partner with sales teams to perform deep technical and organizational discovery, quantifying the business value of large-scale problems and defining pilot scope, success criteria, and timelines.
- Author product requirements documents, prioritize engineering backlogs, manage project scope, and act as the primary hands-on quality assurance tester for client deployments.
- Drive the build team through agile delivery processes, managing stakeholders ranging from C-suite executives to individual engineers while resolving technical or organizational blockers.
- Lead technical discovery and design reviews to understand customer data flows, platform constraints, and operational environments while pressure-testing architecture choices.
- Manage launch war rooms and guide solutions from initial deployment to full user adoption by capturing feedback, iterating on features, and proving defined business value.
- Create customer documentation and training materials while leveraging trusted advisor status to identify subsequent high-value engagements and codify reusable solution patterns.
What you need
- Demonstrate strong executive presence and communication skills to build rapid rapport with senior stakeholders and guide difficult decisions.
- Possess solid product judgment to define requirements, prioritize engineering tasks, manage scope, and lead complex agile software projects.
- Understand modern data and artificial intelligence architectures, including cloud platforms, data pipelines, distributed systems, security, governance, and generative application patterns.
- Exhibit hands-on technical ability with proficiency in at least one language such as Python, Java, or SQL to explore data, review code, and build prototypes.
- Bring approximately 7 or more years of experience delivering complex customer-facing data, analytics, artificial intelligence, or software engagements.
