About this role

Professionals who thrive in ambiguity and enjoy translating complex technical requirements into scalable infrastructure solutions will find a strong fit within this team. The Data Center Design department establishes architectural and engineering standards across the global portfolio to support high-density AI workloads, guiding each facility from initial site feasibility through final technology fit-out. As a senior member of this group, the individual will oversee external consultants and data center providers while managing the execution of architectural, mechanical, electrical, and low-voltage designs for leased facilities.

This position exists to ensure that physical infrastructure expands reliably and aligns with performance and scalability standards demanded by modern cloud compute requirements. Day-to-day responsibilities involve coordinating multiple projects concurrently, tracking design deviations, reviewing equipment submittals, and providing support during the construction phase through site visits. Ideal candidates bring a strong background in critical facility engineering and a collaborative approach to working across cross-functional internal teams.

What you will do

  • Manage the design and coordination of multiple data center projects simultaneously, spanning greenfield construction, tenant fit-outs, and equipment upgrades.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all design-related items while overseeing professional consultants, architects, engineers, and equipment suppliers.
  • Coordinate with internal subject authorities across electrical, mechanical, low-voltage, and automation systems to ensure proper technical alignment.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, and forecasts for design expenditures in collaboration with construction management teams.
  • Review and evaluate owner-furnished equipment submittals and participate in page-turn meetings for commissioning plans and sequence of operations.
  • Conduct site visits during construction to review design implementation and ensure adherence to quality standards and project requirements.

What you need

  • Hold a bachelor degree in engineering with a preference for mechanical, electrical, or plumbing disciplines.
  • Bring at least seven years of experience in data center engineering or design with a track record of completing relevant projects.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of critical infrastructure systems including cooling technologies, power distribution, uninterruptible power supplies, and generators.
  • Possess familiarity with large-scale, high-density data centers, cloud infrastructure, and low-voltage or IT design.
  • Exhibit strong project management skills with the ability to manage complex projects and competing priorities within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Communicate effectively to bridge technical concepts between technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

  • Professional Engineer license
  • Professional certifications from organizations such as Uptime Institute, BICSI, or LEED
