About this role

Deepgram is seeking a full-time Senior Backend Engineer to join the Engine Team API on a remote basis within the USA. This role suits professionals who want to lead the design and implementation of secure, robust, and scalable speech processing services and distributed compute orchestration.

Role Overview

In this position, the engineer will drive high-impact products from start to finish by building highly reusable code and creating delightful user experiences. Team members operate with an AI-first mindset, actively using and experimenting with advanced tools to innovate and measure performance in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Enhance core inference services focusing on networking, audio transcoding, speech processing, and optimizations for latency and memory.
Build processes dedicated to measuring, constructing, and refining services to achieve maximum system performance.
Troubleshoot and debug complex system issues involving networking, high-performance computing, and scheduling interactions.
Tailor backend services rapidly to address specific customer requirements.
Collaborate closely with the Product team to design and deploy new features, services, and products from beginning to end.

Requirements

Minimum of 3 years of professional industry experience.
Professional programming experience utilizing Rust, C, or C++, alongside competence in Python.
Strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
Deep understanding of and extensive experience with version control, preferably git.
Comprehensive background working with UNIX-style operating systems.

Nice to Have

Familiarity with modern machine learning frameworks like Torch or implementation knowledge of architectures such as transformers, CNNs, and RNNs.
Previous background working with audio processing.
