Role Overview

Peek is seeking a remote Senior Backend Engineer based out of Mexico City to build scalable systems using Elixir and AI-driven workflows. This full-time position suits an experienced developer who enjoys tackling complex integration and payment challenges within a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Own critical product areas with a primary focus on Connectivity through third-party integrations and the Peek Pro App Store.
Work secondarily on payment-related initiatives while designing and operating complex agent orchestration systems.
Ship real product features primarily through agent-assisted development alongside human colleagues, treating artificial intelligence as a core part of software creation.
Design scalable and reliable backend services that integrate seamlessly with multiple products, ensuring high code quality.
Collaborate with stakeholders across Product, Design, and Engineering to lead new approaches to complex problems.

Requirements

Bring at least 5 years of professional development experience using Elixir and functional programming.
Demonstrate strong backend fundamentals in API design, data modeling, SQL, service reliability, and debugging production issues.
Possess a demonstrated daily use of AI coding tools in a production engineering workflow, with the ability to critically evaluate AI-generated code.
Exhibit strong system design instincts, considering tradeoffs, edge cases, scalability, and system failures.
Maintain clear, empathetic communication skills, working well with peers and providing constructive feedback.
Show self-motivation and ownership to push tasks from conception to production without prompting.

Nice to Have

Experience working with Ruby, GraphQL APIs, or message queues such as RabbitMQ.
Familiarity with B2B software, booking flows, the travel industry, or payment systems like Stripe.
Enthusiasm for building and iterating on third-party integrations, along with familiarity with the OCTO open standard API.

Salary and Benefits
