Deepgram is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Enterprise AI team in San Francisco for a full-time role focused on building automated order-taking platforms. This position is ideal for a professional with a background in backend infrastructure who thrives in a fast-paced, AI-driven startup environment.

Role Overview

As part of a newly established business unit, this team collaborates directly with core research groups and major restaurant enterprises to solve complex industry challenges. Early focus areas include developing ultra-robust speech recognition for noisy environments, building accurate menu-aware ordering agents, and improving real-time analytics.

Key Responsibilities

Design and maintain scalable, high-performance backend systems for automated order-taking platforms.
Partner with team members to integrate backend infrastructure seamlessly with machine learning models and client devices.
Monitor and optimize production system performance.
Build and maintain integrations with external restaurant technology platforms including POS, payment gateways, and loyalty programs.
Establish best practices in system architecture, automated testing, and code quality.
Fine-tune AI pipelines to handle challenging audio environments and scale to accommodate new menus.
Conduct experiments to measure the product impact of newly introduced features.

Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
At least four years of practical experience building and supporting production backend infrastructure.
Demonstrated history of delivering scalable, high-performance backend software.
Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, API design, and AWS deployments.
Strong troubleshooting abilities and comfort working in a rapidly changing startup culture.
Excellent communication skills with a collaborative, results-driven approach.

Nice to Have

Background working with audio data.
Experience launching a backend system from the ground up.
History of integrating with numerous third-party APIs, specifically Point of Sale systems.
Proficiency in Python, Kotlin, or Java.
Familiarity with container technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
Previous exposure to artificial intelligence and machine learning environments.
