About this role
The machine learning platform team at Lyft builds next-generation infrastructure for low-cost, ultra-immersive transportation using petabyte-scale data across marketplace, mapping, fraud, and growth domains. Software engineering interns collaborate directly with product managers, data scientists, and fellow engineers to design, train, and test machine learning models while converting research papers into working code. The position exists to support high-impact technical initiatives during the Summer 2027 term in Toronto, operating on a hybrid schedule that requires three days in the office per week.

What you will do
- Contribute to the design, build, training, and testing of machine learning models.
- Write production-level code to convert machine learning models into working pipelines.
- Partner with product managers, data scientists, and fellow machine learning engineers to frame problems within the business context.
- Analyze experimental and observational data, communicating findings to support decisions.
- Participate in code and spec reviews to ensure code quality and distribute knowledge.
What you need
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Computer Science or a related technical field from a university in Canada.
- Graduation date between December 2027 and Summer 2028.
- Available during Summer 2027 for the internship in Toronto.
- Good understanding and knowledge of machine learning libraries like scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, and MXNet.
- Strong programming skills in Python or a similar object-oriented language.
- Proven ability to effectively turn research machine learning papers into working code.
