Role Overview

The Cloud Storage team at Crusoe is seeking a Software Engineer II to guide the development and execution of the company storage strategy. This position focuses on driving innovation and performance improvements across cloud storage infrastructure. Professionals in this role will work directly with cloud storage primitives and utilize advanced storage engineering concepts to construct reliable, scalable, and high-performance solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with product and engineering teams to define, execute, and deliver cloud storage features on the product roadmap.
Write sustainable software, create design documentation, and manage software qualifications and rollouts from bare metal to user-facing APIs.
Take part in architecture discussions, design processes, design reviews, code reviews, and implementation tasks.
Foster an environment of teamwork and continuous learning through active collaboration with fellow engineers.
Participate in key organizational initiatives such as tech talks, open source development, and book clubs.

Requirements

Hands-on experience building and operating large-scale, complex distributed cloud computing infrastructure products, preferably with redundant and fault-tolerant storage solutions featuring backups, replication, encryption, and data protection.
Knowledge of professional software engineering practices and the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, builds, testing, and operations.
Experience with at least one application programming language such as Java.
Exposure to Infrastructure as Code tooling, including Terraform.
Knowledge of Linux systems internals and computer architecture.
Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
Successful completion of a background check.

Nice to Have

Hands-on experience with storage technologies like NVMe, SSDs, and distributed storage systems.
In-depth understanding of block, object, or file storage, and familiarity with protocols such as NFS, SMB, iSCSI, and NVMe-oF.
Demonstrated contributions to open-source projects like Ceph, GlusterFS, or OpenEBS.
Proven system programming experience using C, C++, or Rust.
Understanding of physical and software-defined networking concepts.
Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
