About this role
Developing the interface between vehicle autonomy and mission control systems occupies the daily routine for this role at Torc Robotics. The engineering team builds software that allows remote assistance, route advisors, and on-truck management systems to communicate with autonomous trucks, helping monitor performance and ensure safe operations. This software engineer designs C++ components, translates system requirements into scalable architectures, and collaborates with back-office, perception, and controls teams.
This position exists to advance the commercialization of automated trucks for long-haul freight through reliable vehicle intent software and real-time guidance tools. Successful candidates bring solid programming expertise, a background in embedded systems or autonomous vehicles, and the ability to drive cross-team initiatives with minimal supervision.
What you will do
- Design and optimize software interfaces connecting autonomy systems with remote assistance, mission control, and route management platforms.
- Lead the creation of real-time C++ software components to support vehicle guidance and status tracking.
- Translate high-level system requirements into robust component architectures, verification artifacts, and scalable algorithms.
- Contribute to testing and simulation frameworks to validate software behavior across various operational design domains.
- Partner with cross-functional teams including perception, safety, and controls to guarantee seamless system integration.
- Mentor peers, conduct technical reviews, and share best practices through hands-on collaboration.
- Stay informed on global route planning research and integrate machine learning methods like behavior prediction and route rerouting where appropriate.
What you need
- Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with at least four years of relevant experience, or a Master's Degree with zero to three years of experience.
- Demonstrate strong programming skills in modern C++ within real-time, high-performance, or safety-critical environments.
- Possess knowledge of kinematic models and vehicle dynamics such as bicycle models and Ackermann steering.
- Write clean, testable, and maintainable code following established software engineering best practices.
- Bring five or more years of experience architecting and implementing embedded software solutions with a focus on code optimization and scalability.
- Produce thorough technical documentation and validate solutions through unit or system-level testing.
