Software Engineer, Early Careers focused on AI and UI
About this role
Integrating multi-step AI agents into a platform serving over one hundred million streaming households requires engineers who can make agentic systems function reliably on top of existing distributed services and hardware. The Roku OS Platform UI team needs a software engineer to build production-grade agentic capabilities that interact with real-time telemetry, device fleets, and physical hardware constraints.
Candidates joining Project Ahsoka will design internal tooling, handle event processing at streaming scale, and detect service regressions through automated code generation and review. Ideal applicants combine strong systems engineering fundamentals with practical experience shipping non-trivial agentic projects, while understanding how schema changes impact millions of deployed consumer devices.
What you will do
- Develop multi-step agents that perform real work in production environments.
- Build internal tooling, skills, and services to accelerate team workflows.
- Process real-time telemetry and events under strict device CPU and memory constraints.
- Tackle agent challenges involving physical hardware feedback and device fleets.
- Detect service regressions, bisect problematic commits, and propose code fixes.
What you need
- Have up to four to six years of professional engineering experience since completing studies.
- Demonstrate strong systems or infrastructure fundamentals including real-time data or distributed systems.
- Bring a completed work or personal agentic project that goes beyond a simple chat wrapper.
- Maintain clear accountability methods for reviewing and gating code.
- Hold the legal right to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
Benefits
- Global access to mental health and financial wellness support and resources
- Healthcare options including medical, dental, and vision

Questions candidates ask
What is the remote work policy?
Roku engineering works in the office Monday to Thursday, with a flexible Friday. The role requires being on-site four days a week rather than working fully remotely.
What is Project Ahsoka?
Project Ahsoka is a defined program for early career engineers building agentic systems. Participants are paired with a mentor, join a squad with other Ahsoka engineers, and help set the hiring bar for future team members.
What does the interview process look like?
The loop includes a hands-on engineering exercise on an unfamiliar codebase using standard tools. Interviewers assess how candidates approach novel problems rather than testing memorized APIs.
