Role Overview

RA Capital Management, LLC is hiring a full-time Software Engineer for its Data Engineering team in Boston, MA. The position focuses on developing enterprise data platforms that combine traditional data pipelines with AI-native data access patterns. The professional in this role will design governed and auditable interfaces allowing users to interact with complex healthcare datasets through large language models.

Key Responsibilities

Design and maintain scalable, production-grade data pipelines for healthcare datasets such as claims and provider data.
Build and optimize data models to support both analytical and AI-driven workloads.
Write Python and SQL code for data standardization, reconciliation, validation, and application workflows.
Develop AI-powered data applications and agentic workflows that connect LLMs with enterprise data and internal tools.
Build AI-native data access frameworks, including LLM-to-SQL and LLM-to-GraphQL patterns.
Create backend services, APIs, and reusable software components for data and AI applications.
Establish evaluation and testing frameworks to measure accuracy, reliability, and performance of LLM-powered systems.
Write automated tests and contribute to CI/CD, deployment, and production support.
Collaborate with AI/ML engineers, healthcare data vendors, and internal stakeholders.
Implement monitoring, observability, and governance for data pipelines and AI workflows.
Document data architectures, AI-enabled workflows, and production systems.

Requirements

Hold a bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field, or possess equivalent practical experience.
Bring up to three years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or a related role.
Demonstrate strong software engineering fundamentals and a foundation in data engineering and data modeling.
Prove proficiency in Python and SQL.
Show hands-on experience with, or a strong interest in, LLM-powered applications, AI agents, or agentic workflows.
Demonstrate familiarity with LLM tool use, structured outputs, orchestration patterns, GraphQL, or other API-based data access methods.
Possess strong communication, ownership, and collaboration skills.
Be based in the Boston area and available for a hybrid work schedule.
Maintain authorization to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.

Nice to Have

A master's degree in a technical field.
Experience with Spark and Databricks.
Background working with healthcare or other regulated datasets.
