About this role

Classical imaging specialists who want to see their algorithms running in production at scale will thrive in this environment at Muon Space. The High Performance Compute team is expanding to accelerate mission-critical data products and handle growing image processing and machine learning workloads across both ground and flight systems.

Engineers here take the most expensive stages of imaging pipelines, such as bundle adjustment and orthorectification, and re-implement them as high-throughput, low-latency services with hardware acceleration. Working directly with the image data products group, the team focuses on optimizing latency and integrating C++ components into Python pipelines while partnering closely with GPU specialists.

What you will do

  • Re-implement expensive imaging-pipeline stages in performant C++ while exposing them cleanly to Python.
  • Drive down pipeline latency by replacing slow stages with optimized implementations like GPU-based orthorectification.
  • Collaborate with the image data products team to identify high-value stages for porting from Python to C++ and GPU.
  • Contribute high-performance reference algorithms and build comprehensive benchmarks for them.
  • Own verification and validation processes including unit, integration, and performance regression tests within CI.
  • Produce clear technical designs, trade studies, and interface documentation.

What you need

  • Hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Math, or a related technical field.
  • Bring at least 3 years of professional experience developing performance-critical C++ software in production environments.
  • Demonstrate expert-level proficiency in C++ with deep familiarity regarding memory management, concurrency, and performance-oriented programming.
  • Possess hands-on experience handling bundle adjustment, orthorectification, and common image and geospatial formats.
  • Show demonstrated experience in building high-throughput and low-latency image-processing services alongside strong Python skills.
  • Maintain strong written and verbal communication abilities to lead cross-functional technical discussions.
  • Demonstrate the ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.

Nice to have

  • CUDA, especially for image-processing kernels
  • Photogrammetry or remote-sensing background
  • High-throughput data movement including zero-copy buffers, RDMA, and shared memory
  • CI/CD for containerized workloads with performance regression testing
  • Direct exposure to space, aerospace, or other mission-critical software environments

Benefits

  • Competitive equity grant and comprehensive benefits package
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Short and long-term disability and life insurance
  • Three weeks paid vacation for new employees along with 12 paid holidays
  • Unlimited sick time and paid parental leave
