About this role

Translating manual operational workflows into reliable automated systems forms the core of daily responsibilities within Coalition's Automation team. Engineers build and deploy production-grade AI agents, wire them to enterprise systems of record using MCP, and collaborate closely with internal business units to map existing processes.

Established in 2017, Coalition provides active insurance by combining cybersecurity tools with comprehensive coverage. The engineering group tackles complex problems by embedding AI agents directly into everyday operations, relying on established production workflows rather than starting from scratch.

Candidates who excel in this position combine deep technical competence in LLM applications with strong interpersonal skills to understand and document internal customer needs. Someone who thrives amidst ambiguity and values practical execution over theoretical design will find a strong fit within the team.

What you will do

  • Author reusable skills by turning a team's process, judgment, and edge cases into components that agents can invoke.
  • Build within the agent architecture by wiring systems of record through MCP servers and composing working workflows.
  • Define success metrics with business teams and build eval sets to establish baselines before shipping code.
  • Take agents from prototype to production with appropriate permissions, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, and audit trails.
  • Partner with data engineers to manage the access, models, and quality of data read and written by agents.
  • Collaborate directly with non-technical operators to translate operational workflows into technical requirements.

What you need

  • Substantial hands-on experience shipping LLM-backed applications including prompting, tool use, and multi-step workflows.
  • Practical experience with MCP, tool authoring, and orchestrating agents against real systems of record.
  • Demonstrated history of building eval sets and using them to make deployment decisions.
  • Fluency in agentic coding tools like Cursor to move efficiently inside unfamiliar codebases.
  • Strong software development capabilities in Python along with comfort using SQL against production data models.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on software development experience.

Nice to have

  • Experience building or maintaining MCP servers
  • Prior solutions engineering, professional services, internal tools, or startup founding experience
  • Working knowledge of Linear, Jira, Zendesk, Salesforce, or Snowflake
  • Background in insurance, fintech, or another regulated domain

Benefits

  • 100% medical, dental and vision coverage
  • Flexible PTO policy
  • Annual home office stipend and WeWork access
  • Mental and physical health wellness programs including One Medical, Headspace, and Wellhub
  • Competitive compensation and opportunity for advancement
