About this role

The Skills Systems Architect role at Databricks is a full-time position located in the United States that suits a builder with a background in technical learning, enablement, and AI-native tooling.

Role Overview

Databricks needs to track technical capability across large populations of employees, customers, and partners. Traditional role-based pathways cannot keep pace with fast-changing platforms and the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence. This builder position owns the systems that define, measure, and develop technical capability by tying roles, skills, content, and credentials into a single living model.

Key Responsibilities

Define skills taxonomies, capability models, and learning contexts that establish how skills are organized, their relationships, and how quickly they become outdated.
Establish observability and measurement through AI-informed live signals that track capability standing and drift rather than relying on monthly or quarterly indexes.
Track product releases, market shifts, and role evolution to anticipate future capability demands and surface emerging skills early.
Build software to maintain taxonomies and models, utilizing LLM-driven skill extraction, agentic pipelines, automated drift detection, and APIs.
Create reusable enterprise context that internal teams, products, and external systems can build upon beyond standard training assets.

Requirements

Background in technical training, learning, enablement, or product education within cloud, data, AI, or comparable product areas.
Practical experience in designing capability models, skills frameworks, modeling, measurement, and instrumentation systems.
Hands-on builder mindset with proficiency in Python and SQL, the capability to build applications using AI assistance, and experience wiring pipelines and tools independently.
Native understanding of AI tooling, agentic workflows, and evaluation methods to build and reason effectively.
Track record of driving strategy as an individual contributor through clear writing and analytical thinking.

Nice to Have

Familiarity with off-the-shelf skills-intelligence tooling and evaluating build versus buy options.
