The Senior Systems Engineer - Autonomy and Software position at Shield AI is located in London. Responsibilities center on translating operational requirements into clear technical specifications, managing system interfaces, and collaborating with cross-functional engineering departments.

Key Responsibilities

Apply systems engineering principles to develop and integrate autonomous defense systems.
Translate operational needs and customer requirements into system, subsystem, software, and autonomy requirements.
Develop and maintain system architectures, functional decompositions, interface definitions, Interface Control Documents, requirements traceability, and verification strategies.
Coordinate with autonomy, software, guidance, navigation and control, avionics, hardware, test, and platform engineering teams for system integration.
Define and manage interfaces between Hivemind Autonomy, vehicle systems, mission systems, sensors, communications, payloads, and external systems.
Build software, prototypes, analysis tools, test infrastructure, and engineering utilities using C++ and Python to address integration challenges.
Investigate system behavior, diagnose failures, and validate assumptions using code, simulation, logs, telemetry, and engineering data.
Direct and support integration activities across simulation, software in the loop, hardware in the loop, ground test, and flight test environments.

Requirements

Hold a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in developing, integrating, or delivering complex software-intensive systems within aerospace, defense, robotics, or autonomous systems.
Hands-on background in software engineering with practical experience developing and debugging in C++ and Python.
Familiarity with autonomous or robotic systems, covering perception, planning, estimation, guidance, navigation, controls, or mission autonomy.
Experience in developing and managing system and subsystem requirements, including decomposition, allocation, traceability, and verification.
Experience in creating system architectures, functional architectures, interface definitions, and Interface Control Documents.
