Senior Support Engineer (GovOps)
About this role
Troubleshooting high-consequence platform events and handling complex technical escalations across compute, networking, storage, and OS domains form the core of daily operations in this role. Working within the Cleared Engineering team in McLean, Virginia, this team member acts as the ultimate technical authority for the platform across GovCloud, FedRAMP High, and air-gapped environments. The position exists to maintain reliability and operational integrity as enterprise data enclaves and Generative AI applications become mission-critical to national security and public sector modernization.
Candidates will partner with Core Engineering to triage system defects, perform root-cause analysis, and deploy custom diagnostic tools to unblock platform bottlenecks. Someone who thrives under pressure, possesses deep systems expertise, and wants to safeguard federal AI workloads will do well here. Success requires navigating secure facility operational frameworks while keeping communication clear and stakeholder-focused during critical incidents.
What you will do
- Resolve the most complex platform escalations across compute, networking, storage, and operating system domains within air-gapped and GovCloud enclaves.
- Partner directly with product engineering teams to triage system defects, perform root-cause analysis, and drive permanent software bug fixes.
- Write and adapt custom scripts in Python, Bash, or Go to automate platform triage and streamline operational recovery inside restricted boundaries.
- Lead technical triage and live incident response during high-consequence platform events while maintaining clear stakeholder communications.
- Examine Infrastructure-as-Code configurations and diagnose patch deployment failures to ensure seamless operations.
- Ensure all platform interventions strictly align with FedRAMP High, ITAR/IL5, and federal security compliance standards.
What you need
- Hold an active TS/SCI security clearance.
- Possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience.
- Bring at least five years of experience in systems engineering, cloud infrastructure, senior support engineering, DevSecOps, or a related technical operations role.
- Demonstrate deep expertise in Linux/Unix operating-system internals, networking, process and resource debugging, and distributed systems.
- Show hands-on proficiency in Python, Bash, Go, or Java with the ability to read source code and write custom diagnostic scripts.
- Have proven experience managing and operating cloud infrastructure across public or federal cloud boundaries such as AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, or GCP.
- Maintain working knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation alongside container orchestration mechanics.
- Work on-site out of the McLean, Virginia secure facility and participate in an on-call rotation for critical incidents.
Nice to have
- Active Counterintelligence (CI) or Full Scope Polygraph (FSP)
- Prior experience supporting AWS World Wide Public Sector, isolated defense integration networks, or FedRAMP High / ITAR environments
- Hands-on experience operating inside low-egress or fully air-gapped networks where standard external diagnostics are restricted
