Role Overview

Defense is seeking a Senior or Staff C++ Software Engineer, Edge Systems to help define and build the software foundations that power autonomous systems operating in demanding real-world environments. Based in Melbourne, this position offers an opportunity to solve complex engineering problems where software meets hardware on real operational platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Build modern C++ applications for Linux-based edge compute platforms, including NVIDIA Jetson-class systems, ARM64, and Windows systems.
Work across sensor integration, imaging pipelines, calibration, diagnostics, deployment, developer tooling, and mission-critical applications.
Combine hands-on software engineering with technical ownership to influence architecture and guide technical direction.
Mentor fellow engineers and help shape the long-term evolution of the edge software platform.
Optimize image-processing pipelines on embedded GPUs, design software architecture for future autonomous platforms, and integrate new sensors.
Collaborate closely with systems, hardware, autonomy, AI, product, and test engineers to bring new capabilities into production.

Requirements

Strong background in modern C++ application and systems software development.
Experience working with Linux-based edge computing platforms.
Ability to remain hands-on while providing technical leadership and mentorship.
