Role Overview

Shield AI seeks a Senior Staff Deep Learning Engineer to join the team in Melbourne. The position involves advancing perception capabilities and moving models onto edge hardware for operational platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Research, design, and implement advanced perception capabilities from initial concept through to field deployment
Deploy the artificial intelligence software stack onto edge computing devices
Collaborate with peer deep learning engineers to architect and build tools that scale deep learning operations
Monitor current academic literature and participate actively in research and development projects

Requirements

Three to five years of industry-based experience delivering deep-learning solutions for computer vision problems
Strong comprehension of convolutional neural networks and transformers applied to object classification, recognition, and segmentation
Practical experience working with recent Foundation Models
Experience implementing novel deep learning network architectures via standard frameworks
Relevant tertiary qualifications including a Bachelor, Master, or PhD degree in Computer Science or a related technical field

Nice to Have

Published research papers in prominent computer vision, artificial intelligence, or machine learning conferences and journals
Programming proficiency in C++ and Python
Comprehensive knowledge of modern deep learning network architectures for computer vision and image processing
Background in object detection, target tracking, SLAM, 3D reconstruction, camera calibration, behavior analysis, vision language models, and large multi-modal models
Experience deploying models to embedded production environments utilizing pruning, quantization, and performance tuning
Background in establishing and maintaining MLOps systems
Experience mentoring junior engineers and researchers
