Role Overview

Reddit is seeking a technical authority on experimentation methodology to join the Consumer Data Science team. In this position, the professional will own the most high-stakes experimentation challenges, ensuring valid causal conclusions in a deeply interconnected network of communities. By designing advanced frameworks and mentoring team members, the successful candidate will directly influence long-term product direction and elevate experimentation rigor across the entire organization.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as the primary technical authority on experimentation methodology, setting rigorous standards for design, analysis, and interpretation within a complex ecosystem.
Address intricate experimentation hurdles including network effects, spillover, treatment and control interference, two-sided experimentation, and long-run effect estimation.
Advance causal inference methods in scenarios where standard randomization fails, utilizing cluster-randomized designs, switchback experiments, and synthetic control approaches.
Build and scale self-serve experimentation tools, platforms, and best-practice documentation to boost velocity and literacy across product, engineering, and design teams.
Influence product strategy by translating experimental results into actionable recommendations for senior leadership.
Mentor fellow data scientists on causal reasoning, statistical rigor, and experimentation best practices while sharing methodological advances.

Requirements

Ph.D. in Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field with a strong focus on causal inference, OR an M.S. with equivalent expertise.
For M.S. holders: 12 or more years of industry experience in applied science, data science, or experimentation-focused roles.
For Ph.D. holders: 8 or more years of industry experience in applied science, data science, or experimentation-focused roles.
Deep expertise in causal inference, handling network interference, switchback designs, cluster randomization, and synthetic control methods.
Strong theoretical grounding in experimental design, power analysis, variance reduction, sequential testing, and multiple comparison corrections.
Direct experience with large-scale experimentation platforms.
Demonstrated ability to influence product strategy and solve ambiguous problems in a structured, hypothesis-driven manner.

Nice to Have

Published research or industry contributions focused on interference in experiments, network experimentation, or marketplace causal inference.
Familiarity with Bayesian experimental methods, bandit algorithms, or adaptive experimental designs.
Prior experience working with social networks or user-generated content platforms featuring community-level dynamics.
